A
Walk Around Rome short video below:
The video below is from Anita and I getting out for a walk about with our
grandson, Austin on Sunday. The aftermath of the floods we experienced this
last week is very evident in the video. The Coosa River is formed in Rome
where the Etowah and Oostanaula Rivers come together in the middle of town.
Once a major waterway for the transportation of cotton, the rivers and their
subsequent flooding of the area were controlled by a series of levees built
many many years ago. There is both rumor, legend and some historical fact
that states during the Civil War, an old ironclad battleship in the image
of the Merrimack and Monitor is sunk right where the two rivers come together
- sunk by the combatants to try and block the use of the river for supplies....Anyway,
the river is way out of its banks and will probably be a number of days
before it goes down. What follows is a very short short video of some of
the river flooding there in town. Also will be posting some of the shots
we took walking around as well later in the week. You can explode the screen
with the player controls and not lose to much in resolution.
